Phase 1: Bordentown Ribbon Cutting

Tuesday, August 22, 2023

Recently, we came together to celebrate a momentous occasion for both our partner families and our organization – the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first four families who are purchasing their homes!

From the foundation to the front door, these homes have been a labor of love, built with the collective effort of our passionate team, volunteers, partner families and supporters. And after many months of hard work and dedication, four incredible families are now closing on the first phase of completed homes. More than a new address, these homes will serve as havens where the families will create memories, their children will flourish, and their dreams will take root.

And this is just the beginning of our celebrating! Six more homes in the development are underway, making for a total of ten homes to be built and sold by the end of this year. Each home sold will come with an affordable mortgage that the family can afford at 30% of their household income, and come outfitted with long-term cost saving, energy efficient appliances.

This project has flourished thanks to the invaluable support of our esteemed partners: the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJ DCA), Bordentown Township, Phoenix Modular Construction, and Wells Fargo. Their contributions, both financial and advisory, have been instrumental in paving the way for these families to embark on their transformative homeownership journeys.

Meet Our Families:

Adrienne
Adrienne is a NJ State employee. She and her two school age children were previously sharing a two-bedroom apartment and were quickly outgrowing it. The family looks forward to having a place that feels permanent in a community they can be connected to, where they can have a dog.

 Bola & Martina
Bola and Martina work within a local school system as a bus driver and aide. Previously, they shared a one-bedroom with their two young children. Bola and Martina are excited to provide their family with a home of their own to live, grow, and thrive.

 Courtney
Courtney is a NJ State employee. She and her two school aged sons were living in a two-bedroom apartment lacking personal space. Their new home not only provides them with their own rooms, but is also located in the same school district they currently attend.

Alexis & Evette
Alexis works in manufacturing and Evette is a logistics warehouse worker. Together, they have two young sons. Before their Habitat home, the family lived in a cramped one-bedroom apartment. Now, they can establish their roots and provide their children with a safe and stable place to call home.
